Team Announcements ATTENTION Porter Girls Travel & Intramural Basketball Players All the Porter Girl Basketball players are invited to attend the Freedom vs. Hylton Girl's Basketball game @ Freedom High School on Friday 1/27 instead of playing the 6:30 game at Porter The Boy's Intramural (7:30 pm) and Travel (8:15 pm) Games at Porter will go on as scheduled, however. This is a very last minute invitation... but a great opportunity, too good to pass up! Nia Adam's dad arranged for ALL our Porter Girl players (Intramural & Travel) to attend the Girl's Basketball games at Freedom with free admission. This is not a school sponsored event, so plan on driving yourself and meeting up with the other Porter Girl players/families at Freedom on Friday evening. A roster with all the Travel, Intramural Players, and Coaches will be at the door. Parents/siblings will need to pay the $5 admission fee. You are invited to attend both the JV and Varsity Games. JV plays at 6:00 pm Varsity plays at 7:30 pm Your names will be at the door, so you may arrive at a time that is most convenient for you. Once you arrive in the Gym, look for and go sit with the group of Porter players and parents. Intramural and Travel Girls - Going to the Freedom vs. Hylton Girl's Basketball Game @ Freedom instead Intramural Boys - Arrive at 7:15 pm for setup & warm-ups; 7:30 pm game. Travel Boys - Arrive at 8:15 pm. On Friday 1/27, there will be 2 different in-house intramural games played during our new style of "Open Gym" Intramural Game Night. (Only 4 parents volunteered to coach, that is why we had to switch to this new format.) The Coaches will serve as both coach and referee. This new game format will be more instructional in nature. Intramural Basketball Game Rules: - Only those players who have their Code of Conduct forms on file with Mrs. Misencik are eligible to play on Friday night. - Please do not bring your own basketball. We will provide practice and game balls. - Players who attended their practice this week and arrive on time for Intramural Warm-Ups, will be be given consideration to "Start" the game. - After warm-ups, the players will be assigned to a team and pinnies will be distributed. The coaches will do their best to divide the players into two even teams. - If you arrive late, there is no guarantee you will get a chance to play. If late arrivers end up playing, you will not get as much playing time. - Players are expected to use good sportsmanship and have a "team" mentality during the game. Players who do not pass the ball or involve all their teammates will get subbed out more often. - All Intramural and Travel Team players are invited to play on Friday nights. Parent volunteers are needed to: -help set-up -run the score clock -keep the score book -take the jerseys/pinnies home to wash and return to school early next week -help clean-up (you may earn parent volunteer time for helping out on Friday nights.) Intramural Basketball: for new or beginning players who want to play and compete “in-house”. No sports physical is required to play intramural sports. If we do not have enough parent volunteer coaches or referees, our traditional intramural basketball program may turn into a less structured, “Open Gym” type basketball program. -Mandatory Concussion Training Meeting: Tuesday 12/13 @ 6:30-7:30 pm (in the library only if players/coaches haven’t attended yet) -Coaches/Ref Meeting: Tuesday 12/13 @ 7:30-8:30 pm (in the library for parents interested in coaching or reffing) -Mandatory organizational meeting and clinic for ALL intramural players on Wednesday, 1/4/12 @ 6:45-8:15 pm -Intramural players will attend 1 evening practice (or clinic) each week. NEW Concussion Training Requirement for ALL PWCS Athletes and Parents!Mandatory Concussion Training for ALL PWCS Athletes and Parents All PWCS High Schools and Middle Schools are in the process of scheduling Concussion Presentations for parents and students according to PWCS Policy 759. Please check individual school websites periodically for updated sessions and times. As there are sufficient differences in the way concussion will be handled at the middle school and high school levels, a parent having children in both middle and high schools, will need to attend both presentations. The meeting is mandatory for ALL students and their parents who will be trying out and/or playing any sport (Porter Intramurals or Travel Team) during the 2011-12 school year. A Porter student cannot try-out for or participate in a sport unless they, along with a parent, attend one of the information sessions. Your student will also need an up to date physical in order to try-out for a Travel Sports Team at Porter. All the PWC Middle Schools will hold the mandatory concussion trainings. You are welcome to attend the meeting at any location. More dates will be available for the winter and spring seasons, but it is recommended you attend a class at your earliest convenience! Please feel free to check the website of a PWCS Middle School near you to find alternative dates. Please call the MS above to confirm these dates/time prior to attending the meeting in case there is a last minute schedule change. Sports Physicals In addition to Intramural Sports (no Sports Physical required), Porter sometimes offers a travel team tryout for Middle School Boys Soccer, Boys Baseball, Girls Volleyball, and Boys & Girls Basketball. If you think your child might want to tryout for one of these sports, please get a Sports Physical on file with Mrs. Misencik at your earliest convenience. Just like other Middle Schools, players are not allowed to tryout unless a sports physical is on file. Sport Physicals are only good for one school year. If you got one is the spring, it is good from May 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. A Sports Physical is not needed for Flag Football since it is an in-house Intramural sporting opportunity. Team Files
